Sound Transit's light rail infrastructure in the Central Puget Sound region includes deep tunnels and subway stations. The hydro-geologic conditions in this region include multiple perched groundwater levels in conjunction with the interlayered and intermixed glacial deposits. In the tunneling industry there is an old saying: "If you don't control the groundwater, then it controls you." During our heavy civil underground construction, the Sound Transit team worked closely with Richard Martin Groundwater LLC to control difficult groundwater conditions to safely and adequately construct a number of our underground workings.

Dewatering and Drainage

Groundwater and Soil Contamination

To help keep your project moving forward, we provide testing and evaluation of groundwater and soil contamination, design remediation systems, and negotiation with regulators.

Stormwater Infiltration

We can help you with stormwater management design for Low Impact Development and Green Stormwater Infrastructure projects. Our services include evaluation of soil infiltration capacity for design of rain gardens or deeper underground injection wells, and assessment of site suitability for infiltration.
